How to cut down palm trees in coastal areas

by alfred / Tuesday, 06 April 2021 / Published in Garden Maintenance, Palm Cleaning and Shaping, Tree Felling

We love palm trees. They make our houses and landscapes look great and amazing. However at time they grow too big or very tall and pose a danger to the surrounding. Sometimes we will have other uses for the spaces they occupy.

If you are looking for a easy and step by step guide to cut down your palm tree, you are at the right place. We will take you through the correct process and highlight all the necessary precaution to take before you begin.

We will also show you one of our major project we did in Parow, Cape Town.

The Parow Project

Scope: We were hired to cut down a 11m tall palm tree that was behind the main house. The location of this tree was a challenge. We had to deal with a lot of variables and extreme precaution had to be taken to avoid damaging neighbors and telephone lines. We also had to uproot everything because the owner needed to build a house extension on that space. Digging down was also a challenge because power lines, water and sewer lines were directly underneath it.

This palm tree was leaning dangerously towards next door roof that was a great danger and also a great challenge to cut it down.

The tree was successfully cut and uprooted without any damage to property or humans. Our team worked perfectly as we had planned.

How can you do it?

If you have a palm tree that you want to cut down we recommend you hire a professionals first like Top Climbing Tree Felling.  We are the professors in tackling tall trees.

Step1: Get your tools ready.

You will need to get your tools ready. You will need the following tools, ropes, chainsaws, spikes and safety gear.

Step 2: Check the weather.

Climbing tall trees is not recommended especially if the weather is not favorable. Plan your job during calm and sunny  daytime.

Step 3: Strategies your cutting sequence.

How to cut the tree must be well organised. This ensures that you cut your tree in a way that minimizes accidents or damage to property. Start with outlying branches and clear them away from the landing zone. Once you clear the branches, you can then begin

Use your ropes to lower branches and all thick logs. Get someone to help you with this.
